Worldfest 2023 Entertainment

12.45-12.55pm: Alain Shi - Oboist

Alain, who is in Grade 11, is playing the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (the affiliate group for exceptional youth musicians to the Atlanta Symphony

Orchestra), the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra AND the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (AYWS)! Over the summer he traveled with the AYWS to play Carnegie Hall alongside Joe Alessi (the former principal trombonist of the NY Philharmonic).

These groups have a rigorous audition process and very limited seats for oboe

players. For Alain to get into all three and being the principal oboe/sectional leader of the

AYWS is incredible.

In addition, he has also earned a seat in the Georgia All-State Band for about the past 4

years. It is absolutely rare for a student to achieve such a high level of playing.
